Not monome related, but this board is feeling like home to me, so I'm sharing. I made an abstract music video for a recent modular-synth composition.

Now I have to decide which project I'm going to work on next. -

Nice work! I always like the sync a/v stuff.. Made with Motion on a Mac? I did similar stuff with Trapcode Particular (awesome particle plugin for AfterFX). I think it's possible to code this as realtime soundresponsive visuals in processing or with a little help of VVVV, or maybe Jitter with Max? -

I use After Effects, which I like because it feels like a combination of Photoshop (an application that consumes a large part of my professional life) and Digital Performer. I also appreciate the workflow with other CS apps.
I bought Particular around the NAMM show this year because I wanted to create an effect where the word 'electric' was written out in glowing cursive in 3D space. At that time I realized Particular would be a lot of fun with audio, so I resolved to try that out at some point.
So, you're spot-on. Particular + After Effects. I derived key frames from the amplitude information from the individual exported audio tracks, and then wrote expressions to control the animation.
I've never tried Jitter, but, in conjunction with the monome, I think there are some interesting possibilities. -

man, that was rad. I wish all music could have that much syncronicity to it. and project it onto a large wall, and just listen to a bunch of kool tracks like what you made, and then put it in the monome and mix the a/v up.... it would be like fantasia....man, that was rad. -

i think i now know what impregnation looks like..
seriously though, that was awesome and inspiring.
it made me think of a concept for a new kind of media record label sort of thing. you release dvds that play as audio or in a dvd player. to make it super accessable, you also make a basic sort of Aiwa kind of stereo that has a 3" lcd screen for the video part and plays dvds, dvd audio, and regular cds.
and impregnation, of course. -

This is wrapping around again. coundcyst's and noisemaker's comments rang some areas inside my head. I was writing my comments here, when I realized it would probably make a good blog post.

that was insightful.
the derelict radio station video was also inspiring.
it's amazing how much more down i am with watching a particle travel across the screen than i am with watching most cable television. -
