OK now that i finally got all the information, who is in for another group buy. They will be ordered from 4pcb. Same applies as previous buys (price/x)+shipping to your house. All payments will be through paypal. Also I'm trying to keep shipping limited to the United States. Whisper your contact information to me if interested and remember we need a min order of 5. Anything else I miss feel free to tell me. And thanks unsped for helping out the community with your design. -

hey guys,
If you are planning on ordering a shield, we contacted 4pcb and if you tell them part #4pcb_Owen they should be able to set you up. Also, you might want to ask for Ryan.
Happy arduinoming.

im glad you got that setup for people. i had been giving the schematics out in a limited fashion until recently where one user 'accidently' used batchpcb. im going to refer people wanting shields to you guys from now on.
also in case the casual reader didn't know monome pcb's are made at 4pcb and it was where tehn recommended we had them made. -

@unsped : I understand the ethics behind using 4pcb (they are produced locally, no child labor, safe work environnement, and that's very respectable) but do we MUST use 4pcb ? A friend of mine is starting his last year in electronics school, and he have access to everything needed for making double sided PCB in the schools workshop. Can't I do it myself in his workshop ? -

I'm in the same boat as @melka. I'm already set up at home to etch my own boards, surely this meets the requirements of 'local' and 'sustainable'? I'm in Australia anyway and the group buys have been US-only so far I beleive. -

im going to leave it up to owen and crews judgement on an individual basis, i have no problem with them giving out the pcb files if you can convince them you should have them. technically it is open source and as such the restriction i am imposing is sort of hypocritical, then again there is no real open source license for hardware so we are kind of making it up as we go along. if batchpcb, futurlec, and olimex didnt exist I doubt this problem would exist. -

i'm thinking of doing an arduinome at some point, so i'd be down. -

I'm asking this question because it would be easier and faster for me to keep up with the rest of the team if I could do it myself rather than waiting for a group buy not restricted to the US. I'll try to ask owen, jordan and the rest of the team for the files, or I'll do my own PCB in Eagle (but that would take much more time ^^) -

@unsped - that's great. I sent the bricktable crew a message via their contact from.
The Open Source Hardware issue is a funny one. It was fascinating to watch the Freeduino project come in to being because people decided that the "open source Arduino" wasn't "open enough". :)
I'm protyping my own take on the monome (as a 4x4) using some funky LED buttons I found. If it actually works I'll do a nice write-up and scale it up to a 8x8. -

Count me in as well on the group buy for shield PCBs, I think I have a Portland winter project now. -

home etching and/or using school machines should be fine-- since excessive shipping around the world is a problem as well. posting the files won't encourage using companies with poor environmental records. the only thing that will prevent that is people's choice not to take part in a group buy that uses these companies. -

i suppose that is very much true.

I just bought 5 shields from 4pcb. When they come in, they'll be $33+Shipping over a paypal account. Whisper me an email if you're interested. Still room for 1 more as well. -
