http://docs.monome.org/doku.php?id=app:dj64
to post a bug, please start post with '*BUG*' please.
unfortunately I am unable to offer any support for people using windows. if dj64 does not work for you, please state your version of max, operating system, etc, and supply useful information concerning your experience. 'doesnt work, lol' is not helpful. :D
read the supplied manual to learn how to use the patch. i will try and answer as many questions as possible, and fix as many bugs as is necessary before the rewrite of doom. oh, and sorry about the wait! -

okay I've had a good hour or two at this and everything has worked perfectly for me as described in the manual on my PC...absolutely in love with it already and I'm still drooling as I type. thank you so much for your creation and I can't wait to see how it develops.
*not sure if I missed or skipped over this in the manual, but a hold button while using the effects for momentary repeats would be a perfect addition. -

its all about slot...
@rent
not really sure what you mean. what is a 'momentary repeat' ? if u mean stutter, and you mean 'it would be nice to not have to hold down a button to enable stutter effect', read about 'effects latch' in the manual.
@restlessboy
no rewire support i'm afraid. problem is, there is no beat clock. rewire clients respond to play, stop, position, and tempo. this would be fine if each track's exact bpm was known, but in practice this is not possible. although the patch does have a tap tempo, it would not be accurate enough to keep a rewire client in sync.
it would, however, maybe, be possible, if dj64 had beat detection. when the exact bpm is counted, this temp could be used with the rewire client. also, all time-based effects could be perfectly in sync, and the jump (mlr) section of the patch would be much smoother. but it isn't going to happen anytime soon.
good to see that people are using it. anyone got success on windows (well, less dismay than usual? lol) -

@restlessboy
Maybe http://www.cycling74.com/products/soundflower is the thing you want. It offers internal audio routing, so you could send the audio of dj64 via soundfower to one of your channels in (for instance) ableton. If you don't need syncing ofcourse.... -

@stigi - yeah thanks that would probably suit me fine. From watching the dj64 vid the thing that interested me most was some of the effects. I can see myself using it to construct samples more than for actually DJing. although that would certainly interest me too. -

i should have included a little audio recorder.
i frequently use dj64 to do a bit of mangling for a tune. i use soundflower to send my audio to 'au lab', a free utility with osx developer tools. au lab records, and i edit using a wave editor. i dont think syncing is an issue for a patch with this purpose. -

dj64 also won't replace my serato :) but it looks like a nice gimmick (sorry for calling it that ;) ) to take on our new years eve vacation.
gonna rock the blockhouse!! ;) -

just checked out the manual and without even picking up my monome i can see this being a fantastic dj tool.
i really dig the attention to detail w/ things like the file loader being so well integrated.
i'm dreaming of a 256 w/ mlr in the top half, dj64 bottom left w/ volumes and such on the right...
anyway - off to test it out now. wicked work mate.

Great app!!
The only thing is that i can't understand how i can sync two tracks without listenning the one which are not playing for the public? -

CommentAuthorstigi
- CommentTimeAug 27th 2008
naven: you'll need a soundcard with multiple outputs... one for public and one for your headphones.
but i'm not sure how "pre fader listening" is implemented in dj64 since i didn't tried it yet. -

i have that kind of soundcard... i was using traktor. -

- CommentTimeAug 27th 2008
you can select a deck to be routed to the monitor mix by using the monitor button on the main page. stigi is right, you need a total of four outputs, two for your main mix, and two for monitor mix.
the monitor mix is pre fader, but post filter. -

For some reason I can't get any sound out of this app. How do you set up your audio settings to specify your soundcard? -
- CommentAuthorc1t1zen
- CommentTimeAug 27th 2008
I got it working on Windows XP using Max 5 Runtime. I found the best way to load files was the load button under each deck. The loading page, is it row 8 column 8?, was very flakey for me. But honestly I only gave this about an hour of playing so I can't really report any bugs yet without further testing. I loaded up some ambient type samples and had at the FX strip...That's the features I was most interested in. Great stuff.
My only request would be some sort of Q (resonance) on the LP/HP filters. The way a filter sweeps work is that resonance is amplifying the different harmonics as it moves across the frequency spectrum.
For now though it's nice to be able to HPF out a bass kick from one deck and LPF out the hi-hats on the other.
Again good job on this release, the last thing I was expecting was a manual. This should be shown as an example of how to release a monome patch. -

this is so awesome. thank you so much for making it. i am so blown away by the quality of the recent apps that people have built for the monome.
my only problem is that the nerdscroll portion only displays N N N N N N... or sometimes O O O O O O O...
other than that it's perfect -

@producer1620
in max, go to options > dsp status. select your audio driver, and play with the settings. make sure 'audio' is set to 'on'.
try and get another max/msp patch to work. if it doesn't, there is a problem with max. post again with your developments please.
@c1t1zen
yes, the loader is page 8, and switched to by pressing button (8,8). if you could test this, it would be most helpful. read how it is supposed to work in manual, and see how it responds. it was a little shady while i was testing it, but for gigs it was fine.
i thought about the resonance. i initially set it quite high for the very reason you stated. but, for mixing it sounds terrible, so i took it down. there is a couple of free columns on the filter page, so resonance could be added fairly easily.
@mapmap.
you using windows? have you tried loading files into playlists? details, details, otherwise i'll never know what's wrong with it! -
