PRESENTING THE NEW SOFTWARE COLLABORATION
http://vimeo.com/2434050
this is mlrV
> V is for visual
> V is for 5 - MaxMSP 5 (You need MaxMSP 5 Runtime to use the patch)
based on brian crabtree's mlr, REFACTORED by trent gill, with assistance from %
a new approach to monome performance with heightened control and streamlined interface
http://docs.monome.org/doku.php?id=mlr:mlrv
new features:
1. paradoxically a bigger and prettier interface will mean less looking at the screen
2. integrated delay to add dub effects to every guitar sample you have
3. interface and control adapts to your monome model
4. realtime sample slicer - tighten your samples or go granular!
5. dynamic audio routing to internal master / hardware outs / inter-app routing
6. 2 new play modes: shot (one shots) and slice (play on hold)
7. adaptable fullscreen interface
8. tilt control of delay / group volumes / tempo
9. 'inserts' concept allows expandability with a simple framework
check the new functionality here:
http://vimeo.com/2441155
more media courtesy of the wonderful %:
http://rhombus.mytrellis.com/2008/12/04/voyagemlrv/
bug tracking and feature requests etc. are found here:
http://mlrv.lighthouseapp.com/dashboard
this is the product of opensource collaboration without regard for national borders or international trade agreements. we continue with this effort in the belief that open knowledge encourages participation and sharing of skills. the new inserts concept is an opportunity for the community to get involved very quickly in creating additions / modifications to mlrV.
for any MaxMSP programmer, the inserts framework should be incredibly easy to use, and even for the beginner I expect that one could start cranking out inserts before the 30day MaxMSP trial expires.
alternatively, if you have no programming skills, donations are welcome

This lloks amazing.
Sadly i can´t use this and any other version of MLR because i can´t get any sound out of it. Everything´s set up perfectly, MLR play (i see the meters) i have selected the soundcard (motu ultralite on a mac) but there´s no sound coming out :(
anyone out there with any idea? i even trashed the preferences but without any luck.
Thanks for this software and thanks for help. -

@ herreinholt
1. you see the meter on the master channel or only on the groups?
2. what OS / computer are you using?
3. do you have overdrive turned on?
4. do you get sound out of any other MaxMSP patch? (try the examples / help folders)
if you aren't getting sound from any Max patch then i'd try reinstalling max5 otherwise post a video and i'll see if there is anything obvious. -

Hello enjoi.
1. I see the meter also on the masterchannel.
2. IntelMacbook c2d Ghz OS 10.5.5
3. Overdrive (override?) is turned on
4.i have never used a audiomaxpatch, only midi which works good. I´m on Max Runtime 5, no full version here.
Thanks a lot for the quick reply.
Cheers, hr -

I'm also having trouble with this patch...
I'm not getting any audio coming from mlrV.
The group vu meters are displaying fine, but the master vu meter is not displaying anything (groups are sending to master, even tried individual outputs- nothing)...
Running: Intel MB c2d 2.4ghz, 2gb ram, OS 10.5.5, A8DJ + FA-101 soundcards.
other mlr patches are working fine in max runtime 5 ( 2 and cyst versions), through both soundcards..
DAC is on, i've read through the documentation...
loving the visual interface, even though i can't hear anything.. -

does it work when you use CoreAudio rather than an external soundcard? -

@corporation, @herrreinholt
try:
click 'FX' on in bottom-right
choose 'filter.maxpat' where it says '_framework.maxpat'
click 'bypass'
maybe? try fiddling with the inserts... -

snap indeed...got it running and this is more amazing creations from this awesome community!
*I'm having trouble getting it to recognize the size of my 64 and it's playing the lights as if it were a 128 and I can't seem to fix it...also checked the documentation of course and still couldn't get it fixed. -

try clicking the handy sizer in the bottom right corner (under the mlr tab) it should glow orange as feedback
btw, did my previous comment to corporation and herrreinholt fix the audio issue? -

Awsome!. Works great. Nice interface and new features. Only thing acting weird is when i try reverse looping by pressing the outpoint before the inpoint. The sample stops playing, except when pressing the first button, the leds loop reverse but it plays the whole sample. Is this a bug or am i missing something? -

@%
ahh...right. double clicking does it. dur. thanks!
and is it supposed to change the tempo whenever I tilt it to the right and left? -
-
- CommentAuthorenjoi
- CommentTimeDec 6th 2008
@ rent
tempo should only change when tilting if you are holding down button 6 (the preset button) but please forgive me if it doesn't work as advertised - i don't have my 40h w/ accel. anymore!! (the tilt functions are tested only w/ a simple maxpatch to generate tilt data).
oh, and folks - expect some weird behaviour... it's only tested on %'s and my setups. -

sorry don't mean to seem all pushy jumping in and asking a bunch of questions already...fully appreciate all of your guys' hard work.
seems though that after setting up the tilt no matter when you tilt left or right even w/o pressing button 6 it changes the tempo. I also keep having issues making it recognize it as a 64 even when opening with monomeserial open already and pressing the monome size buttons... -

Here's some weird behavior. And I hope I'm not doing anything stupid, but I don't think I am)
I can't get any sound. I see the meters moving but no sound.
I'm on a macbook pro running os x 10.5.5
Latest Monomeserial (0.20 i think)
1. Start monomeserial
2. Open mlrV (confirm /mlr prefix)
3. Select basic Core Audio Built-in Output
4. Hit DAC, (confirm CPU meter)
5. Drop samples in "drop" window
6. Select sample in input x dropdown
7. Launch clip via monome (confirm meters moving, light on monome moving)
still can't hear anything. weeeird. -

@clarify
i would suggest fiddling with the inserts in the bottom right corner under the 'fx' tab. by the way i really enjoyed the tunes you posted the other day... -
- CommentAuthorenjoi
- CommentTimeDec 6th 2008 edited
ahhh folks i see the problem (hadn't tested in max runtime)
the current workaround is as follows (i'll update the patch later today)
1. click on the 'fx' tab in the bottom right
2. set one of the '_framework.maxpat' to 'filter.maxpat'
3. toggle bypass on then off
there is a problem with the bypass state being set to turn off the master when the patch first loads. i'll get onto fixing this asap.
edit: % beat me to it - but the 3 steps above should get you some sound.
@ rent:
i'll fix that tilt issue today at some point.
the problem with recognising the 64 is probably a fault on my end.
does anyone know what 'device' message monomeserial sends when it has a 64 connected? i assumed it was '64' but this may be wrong.
please note - i don't have a 64 so testing is a little troublesome. -

fiddled with the fx panel and it now works!
really really really awesome!
loving the delay and one shots capabilities, multiple outputs are great...
can't wait until 6 groups option is finished! -

EDIT:
update (rev.1a) in first post / wiki
bug fix:
> no more need to do the insert select thing to get audio (at least on my machine)
> tilt tempo should only occur when holding button 6 (preset button)
please confirm if this fixes these issues. -

works for me in max msp runtime 5.0.3 -
- CommentAuthorclarity
- CommentTimeDec 6th 2008
that works for me as well in runtime 5.0.4, however buttons 6-15 of the control row are not getting any response. hate to jump straight to troubleshooting... but volume up/preset/delay presses not recognized... any thoughts? -

- CommentTimeDec 6th 2008
make sure the monome-selector in the far bottom right of the screen is selected to the correct monome-size.
otherwise you're 128/256 will be acting as if it is a 64/40h.
if this doesn't work fire some more info back.
note: this chooser will be automatically selected for you if you already have monomeserial running before your load mlrV

The old clock source chooser is gone and all that remains is internal and rewire. I see the old style picker in the 'send midi sync' under midi/osc. Can I send regular midi clock toMaxMSP 1??? -
