> BTW, the "record group stops" feature is something I've wanted just about forever!
mlr_cyst has done this for the past version or two. it is an incredibly valuable feature.
also, viewing the todo list requires the full version of max, which i generally don't expect people to have, so it was a valid question. =) -

this is like everything great about every version of mlr combined into one. only better. and with delay.
damn.
also, the gui is tasty. if it were a material object, i'd eat it. good thing it's only software...
only one question: the slice mode was kind of glitching out on me. it seemed to react slowly, and wouldn't detect some of my button presses. however, keep in mind that at the moment i'm still reduced to propping the electronics up on a tupperware to play, and can't really put full pressure on the pads without tilting the tupperware. i'll try it again once my case is finally finished (should be monday). -

So, I made my first recording with mlr V. It's extremely rough, but here it is:
http://agargara.iiichan.net/me/2008.12.06.html
Since my presets don't work quite right, I had to change the octaves to their right places in the middle of the set, which you can hear about halfway through. I tried to make it sound like it was intentional :)
Edit: The url was messing up because /me changes in to agargara. Fixed with html trickery -

double tempo / half tempo for each row would be handy. -

wow, great!
looks awesome!
now the most important thing, i think, would be a pre roll. (like in the aes mlr2 edit.)
because you can now change the loop start point you could say that its not so important, but to record a sample which you can use right away is really more intuitiv to work with... -

experimental support for stretching fullscreen interface.
this is the result of a night of 'scripting' in maxmsp... this was rather tedious.
sure takes advantage of the plentiful pixels on my 15" MBP...
let me know if 'fullscreen' (or F11) works properly on your machines
(btw. 1024*768 is minimum resolution supported) -

Hi Guys. Very nice work!!
For me here the timing is much more precise!!
One question I did not listen to the delay... How it works?
The sending is the tiny blue line at the right of the channel volume?
hi guys, one question... Am I missing something or there are no midi CC implementation yet?
It will be nice to attach a bunch of knobs or faders to control volumes and stuff...

>Fullscreen and F11 work here. Nice one!
First off, great edit. Nice work!
Is the full screen + F11 trick aimed at displaying all 16 rows at once? For me (MacBook), F11 clear all windows off to the sides, F10 zooms out to show all open windows at once. Is this the only way to see all 16 rows at once? -

Oh yeah you'll have to change the Exposé shortcut keys. I'd already done that for fullscreen ableton. -

i think i might just be missing this, but if not, i have a feature request:
the ability to select what i chop is GREAT, but i just want a nice way to select half. triple word score if i can toggle first and last half.
but really... this is greatness. -

Now if I can get it to not crash all the time, this will be perfect... -

definitely needs more pattern recorders (6-8), and double tempo/ half tempo reverse controls on the monome before i do the switch. the mlr i have been using for the past 6 months has that and it seems like i am downgrading by having to use my mouse to control those options. the delay and slices are great features but not enough for me to switch yet. -

So I spent the last days or so tinkering with this and I really like the new layout its really nice to be able to see the wave as I and jumping around. I have had a bit of trouble with a few things.
I am having some trouble getting the midi clock from ableton to talk to mlr to set te synk. The other thing im having trouble with is the audio rewire. I’m sure that I am just missing a couple of little things.
O yeah the monome size button dosent seem to self select for me with my 256, I have to select the 265to get the added rows, then the 128 wide and then back to the 256 to get it to select.
The patch is really great, some amazing work to be sure. These things have become the best music related purchases I have ever made. -

quick question:
when you click "record," the audio recording begins immediately, right? I know with aes_edit, it gets quantized to the downbeat (based on the preroll), but I'm not sure how it works here.
and again, fantastic app. can't wait to get on it. the 'loop' recording function is blowing my mind (now that i actually understand it). -

@ rcutz:
- to learn about the delay read 'documentation.pdf' - that should set it out
- midiCCs are yet to be added for volume faders etc.
@hypno|sapien:
- fullscreen at the moment only displays 7rows
- to enter fullscreen you can just click on 'fullscreen' in the bottom right of the patch
- F11 is just a shortcut though it is normally linked to expose in OSX
- in order to bring up all 16 rows you need to click on '+8rows' in the monome chooser (bottom right)- it should float over the 256
@griotspeak:
- first / last half (or quarters) could be useful... maybe soon
- it could be ugly so i'll think about a simple implementation
@drhiggins:
- currently auto monome-selector only works on OSX as monomeserial doesn't have this function in the windows version
- currently midisync can only be SENT to ableton
- to receive midi FROM ableton you will need to do so via rewire
- this will hopefully change in the future
@sursiks:
- record functions instantly (i have been working w/o quantization lately so seemed only logical)
- i will try and figure out some sort of pre-roll option
@ kero.fm:
- more pattern recorders is possible though i'm sure not everyone wants 6 - 8
- this kind of functionality is what i envisaged the 'inserts' patches working for.
- what 'inserts' allows you to do is design your own set of controls for buttons 9-14.
- they could easily be a couple duplicate pattern recorders or shift buttons for octave shift
on this note, i could make inserts specifically for people, though my original thought behind the idea was that there will shortly be a complete framework making it relatively easy (even for a novice) to build their own in 30day MaxMSP trial.
if people want me to spend hours programming inserts for an individual that will not likely have benefit to a large group, i'm afraid i may ask you to pay for that service. as with this whole effort, i am doing so for the benefit of the community at large and donations are a welcome side-effect (all 1 of them!)

> - first / last half (or quarters) could be useful... maybe soon
i'm way into this one, because it effectively allows you to do multiple row spanning, albeit without the continuity from one row to the next. this would, in general, make preparation much easier.
also, big big ups on the insert framework. i've had a similar idea in my mind for quite a while now, and it's refreshing to see something similar to my idea implemented.
i'll see if i can put together some of my effects patches into the insert format to share next week. -

awesome man!
i really want to flesh out daedelus' filter/bpm + vol faders thingo for 64.
that kind of added functionality seems to strike right at the heart as it links right into the core of the program and can interact so far beyond mere midi CCs, or a vst.
i have a couple inserts lined up to.
1. the mlr-aux thing above
2. a vst wrapper (for those who can't live w/o their fav. effects)
hrmm.. that is all. looking forward to seeing your sure-to-be-amazing additions to this project! but study for school first mate, you know your time spent programming will be much more rewarding if you aren't feeling guilty about it!! -

no there is a tilt function for the 64 inbuilt into this version of mlr.. Big Daddy 'D' just uses the 64 in conjunction with his 256 to carry through tempo moon beams.. I'm 99% sure that someone will help me setup tilt for the 64 in this version..

setting up tilt should be quite easy.
1. click the tilt tab in the lower right settings pane
- follow the prompts
- everything should work
if it doesn't work it's probable there is a bug in the code as i don't have a real 64 to test the functions (only a tilt emulator patch i wrote)
@snarehanger
the granular pitch shifting stuff is not yet implemented.
i had it working a couple months ago in an old version of the patch but the latency was a little too much. i'm working on cleaning up the code to try get it running a bit faster and more responsively.
stay tuned. -

- CommentAuthorenjoi
- CommentTimeDec 9th 2008
sorry - i understand that the documentation has been confusing as to the control row functions - i will update with 1-indexed button numbers.
on this note though, any reference to 'button-x' in the documentation means in the 1st row - the control row (not the sample rows).
buttons from left to right are currently:
0, 1, 2 etc.
so button 6 is (on a 64/40h) the button one in from the right of the control row.
aka. the 2nd-last button in the 1st row.
re-write to come.
