anyone else not able to route this to an instrument correctly? i have the serial prefix set as well at the midi out. Its just not sending to live. im using a 256, but i doubt that would matter seeing how its mapped to my 256 on the top two quadrants and lights up. -

actually i had the same problem at first - make sure remote is turned on in the MIDI prefs for "from Max/MSP 1"
let me know if that solves it -

are you talking about the prefs in live? i dont see a from max/msp midi setting. Nor do i see any midi remote settings in max. All i found was midi setup, but no remote settings. -

I can't seem to get it send any MIDI data either. I do have Live set up to receive MIDI from Max/MSP, works with other apps fine. Nothing seems to be coming out of whiz. I did a little poking around in that tangle of patch cords, but didn't figure anything out. -

How do you set live up to receive from max? -

Open Max first. Then open Live and go to the MIDI settings tab. It should list "MaxMSP 1" and "MaxMSP 2" in the available MIDI ports. -

ahhh, i'm sorry if it's not working for you, it works on my setup which is just Max & Live.
in whiz: have the MIDI out set to "from Max/MSP" in the sequencer section. don't forget YOU HAVE TO select a cc number in the lfo section. 1 is modulation by default, 7 is volume by default - experiment a bit.
in Live: you need to setup your MIDI prefs for "from Max/MSP" so turn on the remote button to the right of "from Max/MSP"
that said, more likely than not the best way to assign the lfo to something (after the above has been executed) is to have only the lfo pulsating (hit the "L" key" in whiz), make sure the sequencer isn't running and then go back to Live, hit command+M for MIDI mapping mode, select the parameter of the effect or instrument you want whiz's lfo to modulate and it should map instantly. exit MIDI mapping mode and you'll be able to watch the parameter move.
for the sequencer - the MIDI channel in Live should be set to receive either all ins or "from Max/MSP", you should see the VU jumping if whiz's seq is running even if you don't have an instrument on the channel yet.
jeee wilikers; i hope that helps, like i said i had the same problem when i got done building the patch. apologies for the spaghetti inside the patch - it's my first go at programming and i'm learning as i go...
good luck -

ive never seen from max/msp in the midi settings in live, nor have i seen dedicated max midi ports anywhere in max. Did i somehow miss a midi driver on the max install or something? theres nothing about midi from max in the max midi setup either. Im using max 4.6 btw -

1) open Max, open whiz.
2) open Live, go to Preferences>MIDI>MIDI Ports>Input.
you should see "from Max/MSP 1" and "from Max/MSP 2" with Track, Sync and Remote buttons to their right.
no?
in my Max MIDI prefs there are "from Max/MSP 1" and "from Max/MSP 2", they need to be turned on. -

@veiss:
Max has a "MIDI Setup" option in the File menu. You've got to turn the ports on there. Then they should show up in Live.
@kramer:
Okay, I've got the LFO working. I figured it was something like that. I've never done much MIDI-mapping within Live. Still no luck with the step sequencer though.. -

Hi - this is a great patch with interesting use of the 40h. I really like the visual idea with sequence going around the edge and LFO movement in the middle.
I read the help file and i know you plan to add manual note input and Midi note on/off and presets.
I know you set the octave real low - is there any chance of being able to increase (pitch rotary/keyboard) on the main screen? I can see its set seq sub file. I only have max runtime so can't mess too much with it.
More CC manipulation would also be a wish. The LFO -> CC - would be great to have the ability to assign 1 x LFO to 4 or more CC's -

No Max/MSP midi port available either.
I'm using latest runtime version of Max. Is it possible that this one don't include those midi ports ?
I'm using midi yoke and I can get the lfo working in live but not the sequencer. -

@ bean: did you get it working yet?
@ mudlogger: thanks, and for the input too. for the time being until i update it - try holding the randomizer down till you get a seq that you like
@ veiss & ohmstudiste: sounds like a OS or Max issue, let us know what fixes it -

i too can't seem to get this working. i'm using Live 7, Max 4.6.3, MonomeSerial, and Whiz...all on OSX 10.5. i believe i have followed the directions. i believe i have my preferences in Live setup properly, in fact i can see whiz triggering the midi in channel strip window but it's not actually triggering it. if i turn my volume up all the way i can hear whiz effecting the AU DLS Synth.
Settings (and launch order):
Monomeserial prefix/whiz
Whiz: from Max/MSP
Live 7: proper Max preferences + midi channel set to MaxMsp 1 (have tried all too)
am i missing something?

I've got excatly the same setup. Turned the volume all the way up and, yes it's playing the AU DLS Synth here too. Which pointed me in the right place to look. There's a patch cord missing between the MIDI select menu and the noteout object. Patched up, it works. -
