This is a Max/MSP patch that will convert your APC40's MIDI message into the Monome's OSC protocol. Basically it allows you to use Monome applications with your APC40 by converting the top 8 rows of the button Matrix into a Monome 40h/64. Source is included, please modify and hack as you wish.

There are a couple more features in the works. just wanted to get it out there. I've tested it with lots of apps and all seem to work fine.
Have Fun!
Big thanks to all you Monomers for all the inspiration! -

Nice! Any chance that you could include the source for the padkontrol as well? -

wow... nicely done.
personally still waiting to see 'what's next' as far as dedicated ableton controllers go but that aside this does appear to give apc users quite a bit more power... no?
hopefully now that the monome-apc gap is officially bridged we'll get some of the more savvy apc users on board with us here as well. ;) -

amazing... works great, although had to download OSC-route to get mine to work fully for some reason. - so if anyone is missing it you can find it here:

@ plopp - oops! must have uploaded the wrong version. try downloading again. Its in there.
@ lauer303 - yeah, the day i got the apc i did the hack and honestly im having so much more fun using the monome apps. firing clips are cool and all but gets old pretty quick. also, im hoping pople wil modify the apps to take advantage of all of the extras on the apc. all those knobs and sliders and extra buttons are at our disposal - lets use em..
@ heuristic
i tried to pack it up with the collective. wierd that you ahd to download it. Ill look into it. thanks for the report.

the APC40 has foot-controller input - how about a step on the foot controller switches between APC40 and monome modes? And perhaps we could choose between momentary or toggle depending on our style... -

this is very cool !Include. i don't think i'm ever going to get an APC40, but i've been spreading the word to the LA beatmakers i know who just got them. its awesome that we can develop monome software that reaches an entirely new audience. mad props sir.
any warper parties this summer? i'm in NJ all summer and would love to come jam in NYC. -

@momo
- thats a good idea. didn't think about that one. the way I started was using the shift button on the APC. like shift + pan jumps to monome and hitting it again jumps back to apc mode.
could easily be changed to the sustain cc though..
@rawray
yeah, thats the idea. hopefully people will get inspired and create crazy shit.
warper parties - we're doing make music NY on sunday. two locations. ill post it on the monome board. but anytime you want to come up to NY hit me up and we'll chill/jam/rock/whatevs. -

also wonder what the closest monome-to-apc equivalent would be?
are there other apps that work well with pages (in addition to the launcher page, midi page, faders page) or would offer functionality close to default functionality on the apc? something akin to this where it's simple to launch and track clips, stutter, add custom efx, etc... http://bit.ly/UyJAZ -

@ lauer303
I think the OHM is going to be the next closest apc / monome equiv. -

has anyone been successful in bridging the apc and their monome to create a larger monome? i.e 64 + apc =128 etc...?
i've not had a tremendous amount of time to explore yet. -

can you hold a button on the apc, or will it only send momentary info? i knew it was brought up earlier, but i haven't read an answer. -

the monome only sends momentary info. the button holding behavior is in software.
button releases probably send note off messages. -

i've been able to create a 128 out of the apc and a 64. however, no lights on the apc when in this mode. any thoughts?
independent with 2 sep app works just fine. things are getting more interesting in just the span of several days. -

@ Radiophonic
- the apc sends out a note on message when pressed and a note off when released
@ heuristic
Im guessing thats because only one program can bind to an osc port at a time. since monome serial and max/msp are diff apps seems like mpnomeserial is beating max to the punch. one solution is to use some kind of max msp router instead of monomeserial. Then only one app will be binding to that port. -

no problem. enjoy!
have to say that its one of my first max patches, so it's a bit on the sloppy side. but it's all there.
The APC one is pretty clean though

Thank you so much for this! I've been using this more with mlrV then with live these days... bumps
I was wondering if you could point me in the right direction so that I could modify the controller assignments so that mlrV would be a bit more user friendly to apc users. I would really like to have the three bottom rows be control buttons as well as I would like to make use of two foot switches, one for "go" and one to switch between ableton live modes and mlrV modes.
many thanks

i'm also interested in any Monome > APC clones or translators, emulators or whatever... i was using monome basic for a while, but it didn't get updated to the most recent version of live, and pages is great (particularly with live osc for mac now) but it doesn't cope with my large sets and it doesn't have a page for mutes/solos/record etc Also i love the way the APC changes what you're seeing on the computers screen to follow where you are triggering on the APC. I would LOVE that on my monome.. -

thanks so much for this. recently got an apc40, only to realize the version of live it comes with was very, very limited. i was really bummed until i found this, and now it's opened up a whole new world of possibilities for my trusty old powerbook g4 aluminum, and got me started working in max/msp to boot. thanks.
