Hello. This is modo.

Modo stands for -modulating oscillators- and is basically a midi CC-sequencer. In detail, the sequencer try to mimic a LFO behaviour with ability to modulate each other. It let you create fancy animation curves, you wouldn't want to draw these by hand.

Modo is designed for preproduction of sounds and animating parameter in Live or any Max patch. It could also run alongsinde with your favorite sequencing applications like mlr, molar, pages, polygome, tintinnabulome, souyz, hmm, ok is enough.. Here a few main characteristics:

- AM- modulation of Midi CC data

- drawing LFO shapes on monome

- nice cryptic interface

- some new fun approaches on UI

One of the main goals of this patch (and the hardest) was to create a sophisticated layout on the monome. An easy to use, space-saving but luxurious and at least cryptic interface. The interaction with the patch is very important to me, and I tried to use only symbolic signs for different logical functons.

Preview:
http://www.vimeo.com/6249376

Take a look at new features here:
http://www.vimeo.com/6563361

Many thanks for loving this !
Such positive feedback gives me some energy to move on !

>64 support: well, it seems to be hard to get it 1:1 to 64 format. But I have some Ideas how to do that, because I have started to patch it on my 40h !
I'm sure that the layout on 64 will be slightly different, but it could work.

>128 support: seems to be easier, but secondly here lie another general layout dilemma. 16 sequence steps vs. 15-step scalable LFO. Cropped 256 vs. extended 64 layout. However, both of 64/128 requieres reprogramming the patch.

And before I do that, I have to do some general programming work to get it to run on 256 first. But the hardest part is almost done, I must do some fine-tuning and hope to post it here soon...

Dear friends, it's finally done !

Modo v 0.1 is here. ( check the first post )

In process of cleaning up and fine tuning the patch, I've realized there are many features, that must be done better before release. So I have made complete overhaul of LFO engine, reconsidered UI, made GUI with ability to control the patch without monome, written documentation, made a lot of testing and added some nice features like:

- smooth waveform transitions
- phase invert
- phase offset
- phase indicator
- user preset slot ( to save, read/write waveform )
- direction sync
- more LFO shapes
- faster speeds
- and many little, but major improvements

Take a look here:

http://www.vimeo.com/6563361

Now I really like the things are organized and ( hopefully ) well working.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I do and I appreciate any feedback on it !

Just commented on the video on vimeo. I have to also say here: really unique application. I could see this being very handy with something like Volta. I really love your interface that you've designed. It makes me wish I had a 256 and also makes me wonder how you might port it to the 128 or 64. I will have to look into your patch to see how you are creating those wonderful LED transitions with the waveform preset select. I'm sure it is not an easy patch.

Well done!

 dev progress log- new XY-page:

a display pane to visualize the relationship between two LFOs.

It allows you to assign two LFOs to one moving point ( I call it simply sound-point ). LFO1 is controlling the x-direction, and LFO2 y-direction of the point. So you get a great overview of the sound-movement across the XY- range.

One of the main advantages of this "view" is to see it as a sound-room. If you simply assign the x-direction to panning, and y-direction to volume and reverb dry/wet e.g, so you can see the sound moving across the room.
The frequency/resonance relationships are also helpful on this XY-page.

This page is made not only for viewing the XY-coordinates, it lets you control the room-dimensions too with only two presses and control the range of two LFOs simultaneously. The press order determines the LFO direction (left-right=LFO1, up-down=LFO2).

So you will see the "room" as a square with a moving point inside. Very funny, I promise !

P.S: video follows
