So TSA starts going through my bag.. First thing she asks, "are you military?" because my bag is covered in playa dust.
Then she pulls out my memory man and says "this is a...?"
Guitar pedal.
Then she pulls out my 256 and sorta looks at it all perplexed.. Takes a moment and finally asks, "and... This, this is a ...?"
uhm, music controller?
She gave me a weird look. I was amused. -

Thanks to everybody - yesterday was a mind-blowingly awesome evening. I can't wait for the next installment.
If anyone has photos or video they'd like to share, please send them our way and I'll make sure they land on CDM, too. I got what looked through the viewfinder like really lovely footage; hope to edit it very soon!
JP: Was there any archive of the stream? (Someone has already asked that.) I'm always interested to discuss smarter ways of doing streams - screencasts, great, and as discussed yesterday, perhaps a separate audio stream via icecast or something. But I've heard a lot of positive feedback; people really enjoyed the presentations. -

PS, rode the train home with a visitor of NY who talked about what an amazing experience this was. He was especially enthusiastic about the quality of music and musicianship of the performances, and talked with his son about how exciting it was to "witness the future" in the event. -

Apparently ustream only recorder your stream if at the very beginning you press the record button. I just read that now, so it didn't record. But I think we probably have every presentation and most of the evening on video. I'll get mine up as soon as possible.
The stream was an interesting exercise. Especially since I've never done one before. I think next time things will be a lot better. I'm going to take a stream specific rig with me to the event in Nov at the Tank in NYC. Proper camcorder with firewire and maybe a remote mic or two. I just didn't think it was needed this time round (I clearly underestimated the 2,000+ unique viewers and 100+ at any one time we had yesterday).
Huge apologizes to anyone who was there at the end. I think my isight might have shorted or melted. I got a message it was down, and by the time I got round the back in the middle of Ray's set I couldn't get it to reconnect, so we called it a night. I don't think isights are designed to run fro 12 hours straight. -

yo, once again a total success. all i've been able to tell people here in prov is that "shit went down." photos should be up soon to provide actual evidence.
only two bad things went down all night: 1. i left my mac's power adapter in terrance (ray, if you find a mac adapter with a long extension attached and a cord wrapped around one side, throw me an email (sursiks.010@gmail.com)), 2. the person who's floor i spent the night on had a kitten with upper-respiratory disease that wanted to curiously prod my face all night, preventing me from getting sleep. luckily i can do that on the train.
shout outs to tehn, ray, kedaar, david, edison, simcitizen, chili, %, soundcyst, daedelus, kirn, those guys who may or may not have been from LA, all those i met but who's name i've forgot, so on and so forth. despite meeting so many monomers, i still feel like i didn't get a chance to meet enough of you guys. there's always next time? -

Thank you everyone for your amazing presentations/projects/performances/personalities/peaches/pineal glands.
It's been a real honor to meet all of you - this is such an incredibly talented and giving community.
Speaking of giving...your media should be directed to the Vimeo group that JP has setup for us all: http://www.vimeo.com/groups/monomeetfall2009 + HUGE ups to JP for setting up the stream! Also...Peter Kirn said he wanted images and video to throw up for a CDM recap page...hit him up.
Thanks to Joshua for recording the nighttime performances direct to his computer! Saved me so much work!
Special thanks to all of our featured performers, everyone really brought the ruckus. I was completely blown away by everyone.
I can't wait to see you all again. Be well. -

It was definitely amazing meeting everyone last night. The Monome community is such a great group of people. The music was amazing and I hope to keep in touch with a lot of people I met last night. On a seperate note... Since i didn't get my Monome back yet... I combined two templates on my Lemur. The first page is a clip launcher for Live that populates all of the clip and scene buttons onto my Lemur and then the second page is the Monome emulator that emulates a 40h,128, or 256. I created two OSC connection from the Lemur in order to use both pages simultaneously. The clip launcher obviously works with Live, but through the python LiveOSC api and then the other OSC connection goes to mlr 3. It's pretty cool i can flip pages and have the Live clip and Monome fuctionality right on the screen and i don't have to really look at the laptop.
I am looking forward on callaborating with a bunch of you guys on a bunch of stuff that i saw at the Monomeet...
Again... It was great meeting you guys. I really enjoyed it. -

this.
ray, thank you so much for putting that together. it was a remarkably amazing experience, and hopefully not one of a kind (in that we can all do this again sometime).
some of my highlights from the performances.
- when ro played memory ramen.
- when me and digital dust and a few others broke out the dance during %'s set
- making the noise using the touch screen and then every now and then, going to the 40h on the floor.. great performance tactic.
- the altitude sickness track dedicated to stretta.
- seeing sursiks doing some crazy funky dances behind daedelus.. also daedelus slaying my face with the bass.. soo meaty and chunky.
also, sursiks, i think i saw your power adapter there this morning. is it the big macbook pro brick (rectangular from back when).. did you stay at emily's with sean and sterling? i heard it was quite the large slumber party.
i'm sure i'm forgetting to say something... what an inspiring day. i love you all. -
