I might bend the rules a little. Perhaps upload a sample of a crazy sounding elevator or a heavy thunderstorm. I do love the sound of field recordings or even just room tone stuttering to a rhythm or supporting the sound of a pad. Could be under either catagory. -

i agree with watson on the "rules" thing. that set of changing rules might even be more challenging since it forces us to take different things from different angles. i'm on board with v2.0 being one melodic, one percusive. -

@tehn - glad you finally caught wind of the MCRP. i was sort of expecting a cease and desist letter in the mail for using the monome⢠likeness ;) thanks for putting it on the front page, that's sweet.
re: rules - i think a "dealers choice" is always cool.... letting the person who is organizing it make the rules, might add for some interesting variations. -

I too am interested in doing this monthly! I had a lot of fun making my first track and I'd love to have something like this to keep pushing me in new directions.
I really believe in using constraints to enhance/focus creativity. The fact that we don't have any control over what other people upload forces us to find new and interesting ways to make the sounds we want. Adding themes should help to keep things fresh and keep up the momentum.
I think I already have a good idea for the purcussion sample :) -

"Dealers choice" agreed. things shouldn't be exactly the same every go around. maybe v3.0 will be all 80s pop samples :) -

- CommentTimeDec 4th 2009
actually yeah...i can see how monthly "themes" would be fun...80s pop sounds pretty fun, or what about stuff like only organic instruments...or only electronic for that matter...or only human voice samples, or who knows....whoever does the organizing certainly does have the say though (thank you again soundcysyt and three!)...but i know whatever the deal with it is, ill be in again on v3, perhaps ill have finally tried ableton by then too. -

Hey, great! I'm in. The last collection hit while my life was hectic, but it's nicely settled in now, and I'm keen to throw it down. I've been meaning to do some field recordings in the subbasement of my new work, lovely hollow booms from the acoustics. And I'll throw in a meoldic sample off my new ewi controller. Good stuff folks... -

I can't make it to this one, but I have used drop.io in the past for submitting files. It's a really nice polished site for storing up to 100mb. Also, you could try just setting up an ftp directory and have people drop things in... -

perhaps we should come up with a naming standard? Like "watson_perc.aif" and "watson_melod.aif". Might make it easier on the organizer. One for the tracks too, like "watson_songtitle.mp3". -
